Part 2..........my dream wedding.... well. I'm married so I basically already did this. So I planned to be married in the LA temple which Scott would've been willing to go to Cali to do. But I just find that silly since my family was living in UT and it doesn't matter what temple you get married in. It all means the same anyway. I'm so glad we went to SLC because now we can always take our kids there and show them the temple we were sealed in and I hope they learn to love it as much as we do
For my reception I was originally inspired by Brad Paisley's wedding. I remember seeing something on tv and it was so laid back. They turned their rehearsal dinner into their wedding and then the next day had a totally laid back bbq and a game of soft ball. That stuck. I'm not one for super formal stuff. I of course dreamed of having a beautiful dress and my hair all done up. But I thought of how much I hate to dress up for receptions. So I wanted it laid back. I ended up not having any bridesmaids. I couldn't really decide what I wanted people to wear and it seemed like nobody was going to come up for my wedding anyway. So I didn't wanna be stuck with 2 bridesmaids and like 6 or 7 groomsmen. So I opted for no bridal party. Plus I knew I wanted my reception casual and didn't want people to spend money on all these nice clothes that they'd only wear an hour at the temple for pics.
As far as location I wanted it outside. It just so happens that there was a bldg in our parent's stake that had a nice big field and covered picnic tables. So we booked that. We had a volleyball net, horseshoes, and croquet. Not sure if people really played since not a lot of people showed up, but I wanted people to just relax and have fun. We did these Italian sandwiches and some really yummy pasta salad from Tony Caputo's. I didn't want cake but cupcakes. My flowers were sunflowers. Such a happy flower. I also did my reception from 1-3:30pm. We were sealed at 7:20am. We had scheduled our date the end of Jan and weren't getting married until May 13. We had to wait for Scott to be done with school. It was the best time they could give us to get the larger sealing room since Scott has a lot of family up here. So we got married early which meant I was up at 3am getting ready. My friends did my hair. I also decided not to do a luncheon because I knew I'd be exhausted. I really just wanted to do the reception earlier so we could have one giant picnic and then Scott and I could end our day earlier. There was no way physically I could last until 9 that night. My ankles have a hard time when I'm on my feet all day to the point its painful to sleep at night and I'm hardly able to walk. I really didn't wanna feel like that on my wedding day.
So we did a laid back thing in the afternoon. We did have a small cake that we cut and we threw the bouquet and the garter (even if only 2 people were there to catch them... yeah... kinda pathetic). I'm happy with the way I did things and it was my dream wedding. I DID NOT want it to be like every other reception I had been to in Tooele. They are all identical. The same backdrop the same food... the same everything. I hated that. Someone needed to be original. I don't joke when I say I went to 3 receptions in a row and the only difference was the bride and groom, bridal party and the colors. Thats it. Seriously. Lame. So I changed it up. I'm sure it threw people off. We honestly did not have many people there. I had a handful of friends and family there. Which still kinda makes me sad to this day but shouldn't have surprised me the reaction I got when I had originally told all my friends I was engaged.
I wouldn't change the way I did things I just wish I was able to enjoy it more. I didn't want a line but I kept getting introduced to so many people I hardly had time to eat and just enjoy the reception. I guess that's to be expected when you've only lived in the area a few months. It was my dream wedding minus having more of my friends and family there. But my advice to any brides to be is to relax and enjoy it and remember all the little things... like Scott trying to help me carry my train (my bustle broke at the temple) across the parking lot to the church so I could toss it all over my shoulder to try and use the bathroom. Best thing ever. Especially since I had a hoop skirt too because the dress would drag otherwise... so awesome! I took up like the entire handicap stall with that dress. Ahhhhh... the memories...hahahaha.
