Black Rock

Yesterday it rained quite a bit. Scott and I spent some time in the yard digging while Charlotte slept. We got some big rocks out and found some huge chunks of cement buried. Scott dug up a sprinkler line and found another head that had broken off. We thought digging in the rain would be easy so the ground is nice and soft. It was but then the rain got heavier. It was coming down pretty good. We were soaked. Definitely not as bad as when I was caught in a thunderstorm in Florida but still soaked. Then I spent the afternoon getting creative trying to make my own sauce for pizza with what few ingredients I had and no money (can't wait for pay day tomorrow!). After dinner I just really wanted to get out for a bit. Since it was also FHE and Charlotte's not too keen on sitting still through a 15-30 min lesson I thought we could go for a drive and do something. Originally I wanted to go to Iosepa in Skull Valley and take a little drive but it was like 6:30 by then and we would've been gone for a while so I decided we could go to Black Rock at the south tip of the Salt Lake which is a lovely 15-20 min drive from our house. If you could drive straight to it, it would probably be like 10-15 min but you have to drive out to Saltair and back west. I have lived here for almost 6 years now and have always wanted to go there. I wondered what it was like. The road is pretty rough and we were off-roading it in the Honda Accord but it was a fun little trip. Charlotte got to run around and climb on rocks. It's great right now too because the brine flies haven't hatched yet and it wasn't too stinky. It had starting raining pretty hard as we got to Lake Point but once we finally made it over to Black Rock it had lightened up then stopped altogether. Great timing. I of course took some pics so here we go.

This was when we left. I just grabbed a sweater to put on Charlotte. She matches so well right? Then of course she grabs this hawaiian print hat I have. Then I tell her to smile...hahaha... she's silly. Love my little bug.

This is Scott climbing up Black Rock to check out the easiest way to get up there and see the view. I had to take a picture of this rock. I'm from Simi Valley, CA which is in Ventura County and it just so happens that so is Oxnard, CA. It's about a 30-45 min drive from Simi. It was just too funny when I saw that even though it talks about smoking weed. Such a California thing right? I also snagged a quick pic of Saltair as we left.

I wanted to try and do a panaramic view of the Salt Lake from the top of Black Rock so here's what I got pieced together as best as I could. This is looking from the west (left side) to the east (right side). The island on the right is Antelope Island and the one on the left is Stansbury Island. Those are the two largest islands on the lake and I think there are 8 islands total. Something like that.

Here's a few pics we took. I love Scott wearing Charlotte's hat. Not really sure why she wanted to bring the hat so much but it worked out great because it was raining pretty good when we first got there. At the bottom Scott's skipping some rocks... in the hat.... hahahah... love him.
