Scott and I got to celebrate on Sat. It was snowing so we were really hoping it wouldn't get too bad since we had reservations at The Roof. Love the free dinner we get for being part of the Birthday club through Temple Square Hospitality! That morning my mom, Charlotte and I went out to SLC for a little grocery shopping and so I could hit up Soelberg's to order Jackson's cake. Sadly as we were getting on the freeway we were stopped by an accident on the on ramp. I saw this silver van and I was like, man, I hope that isn't anyone from our ward. I couldn't see people at first but as we passed by I looked in my rear view mirror and thought, man, that looked like my neighbors! I was telling my mom I really hope it wasn't them and I knew they had 4 little boys and I really hope if it was that their little boys weren't with them. It just was bugging me all day and I was just hoping that everything was okay if it was them. Of course it was them and they did have their boys. They ended up hitting black ice and rolling their van totaling it. Luckily they were all okay minus bumps and bruises. I'm just glad they were all safe. It was a crazy morning on the roads. There were like 4 other accidents in like a quarter mile radius of them.
That afternoon we got back and I had just enough time to get myself ready. I really wanted to just have a fun date with Scott. We hadn't been on a real date since I think our anniversary last May. I wanted to go bowling. We were running a little behind and I guess on Saturdays you have to just rent the lane per hour. So we did got it for one hour and did 3 games. We probably could have squeezed in 4 if we wanted but we weren't sure how bad the drive to SLC would be and our reservation was at 5. The roads weren't too bad but we did get stuck behind a plow dropping salt and he was going like 50. Once we got around it was better and we were maybe a couple minutes late.
The Roof was pretty full. There were a lot of kids going to some formal. We started getting food and Scott said he wanted to check out the desserts. When I sat back down there were flowers on the table. I guess Scott ordered them and they put them on the wrong table. He went to go check with them while I got my food. He didn't want to grab someone else's flowers. They also put a "Happy Anniversary" card on the table. Scott said they never asked but yeah, we were there for my bday not anniversary. We ended up setting it down on the ledge next to the table because some older guy asked us how long it had been. We said it was almost 7 years but we were technically there to celebrate my bday not our anniversary. The food was just really good. It's always good but that night was one of the best I've had. They had this really good flank steak and a teriyaki chicken that was really good. The desserts were amazing as always. I didn't think about pictures until we were about ready to go. We like to get a bigger plate and load it with desserts and share since you really can't eat much. I do not want to know how many calories I consumed that night but I sure enjoyed it!
This is our snowy view of the temple. The storm got worse that night. We were watching all these rear wheel drive cars slip around on South Temple below.
What was left of dessert. Pardon the fuzzy picture. The chocolate stuff is this decadence dessert. Holy moly it is rich but oh so good! You can also see the ramekin with remnants of our all time favorite creme brulee. Oh so good! Can't wait to go again in May! And possibly again later in the year. For every $300 you spend you get like a $30 gift card or something like that and we should hit it with our next meal.
My birthday/valentine's day flowers from Scooter bug!
Scott figured he'd leave his coat in the car but it was snowing pretty good when we left. He was kinda cold :)
The drive home that night took us like an hour. We had to go pretty slow. I was able to follow a plow from the I80 on ramp to about the 215 exit. I couldn't see the lanes and it was pretty bad. My parent's neighbor's ended up in a wreck that day too and it must have been shortly behind us. Thank goodness we left when we did! I couldn't find much of lane for a while and was just trying to stay on the road. Finally I was able to get behind a Walmart semi. They'r the best semi drivers out here. He was going at a safe speed and leaving tracks so I could follow him to the Tooele exit. Once we got back into town it got a smidge better. We decided to stop at Blockbuster because ours is closing and selling all their stuff cheap. We picked up some movies then headed home. My parents and sister watched the kids for us. My dad even shoveled our driveway! So nice! It was such a good night and it felt so nice to go on a date with Scott. It was much needed!
The next day we had church and it snowed pretty good overnight. Scott had a meeting right after church then I had one after him. I wanted to surprise him and shovel the driveway while he was gone so I just did it in my skirt. Haha! But I finished most of it right as he was coming home. He always has meetings and he just never gets to relax much in the mornings anymore. Sat. morning is his only morning without anything to do but be home. So I just wanted to help him out so he could at least relax that afternoon. He finished up the sidewalk for me and I went to my meeting. Once my parent's were out of church we went over for dinner and cake. This is my cake below!
My mom knows me too well! Haha! So my birthday kind of stretched out over a few days but it was good and now I'm 29! Crazy! Next year is the big 3-0! Wow! Oh and for my birthday I got a gift card to Kohl's from Scott's parents. I so need new jeans so this is a HUGE help! My bro gave me a gift card to walmart. My mom got me pepper spray (yes!) and a new volleyball. A really nice Tachikara with pink and zebra on it. I love it. My parent's also gave me some cash. So nice of them!
