Memorial Day

Today I am so grateful for this holiday. This day where we can remember those who gave their lives so that we may have so many freedoms. So thankful for my many family members who have served in the armed forces. So thankful for my husband's family members who have served as well. We are truly blessed to have so many men and women willing to make so many sacrifices for us. What a wonderful holiday to offer remembrance to those men and women.

We headed up to the cemetery today. It's amazing how many people are there putting flowers on grave sites. So neat to see. We went to see Scott's grandparents grave site and find one of my ancestors. Here is his Grandma and Grandpa Spence's headstone:

I hadn't seen it since his grandma was buried so it was nice to come visit. We had also found the grave site of my 4th great grandmother. A while back I had discovered that she was buried here in Tooele. Her son had crossed the plains and settled here with his family. She had come from England with her husband. I believe they went through New Orleans up the Mississippi and across the plains. Her husband had died and was buried in Kansas. She continued on and settled here in Tooele with her son. The new Chamber offices are her son's old home. Kinda neat that I live here now. So we found her grave site which I thought was pretty cool. They also had an old one of her son's.

Amazing what stuff you find out about your family on new.familysearch.org. We're hoping to get up to Logan in the next couple months for some pictures of my grandparent's grave site and I would love to take a day trip up to Bancroft, ID. That tiny little town and the cool old cemetery to see some other relatives.

We had a really great day. Just spending time together. Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day!
