Sugarhouse Park

Last Wed my mom needed to take her car in to get it fixed. There was this mechanic we always used through Lee's and he's really good so she took it in and I picked her up and we thought we'd hang out in SLC while it got fixed. We didn't think it'd take too long so we went and hung out at Sugarhouse Park for a while. We brought bread to feed the ducks and geese and shortly after the seagulls and pigeons too.

This duck was goofy. He had this crazy little tuft of feathers on his head. I didn't see any other ducks like him there. Oh and there's a dead swallow in the grass... sad :(
 Charlotte loved feeding these guys
Jackson was enjoying watching them too. His Grandma Christensen was getting him to smile in this picture.
This was when the geese started coming in. More and more kept coming over and it was like a gang war when they did. They'd start honking at each other and the more dominant pair would go after the weaker ones. It was a funny thing to watch this social system in action.
At every duck pond there is at least one duck or goose that will eat out of your hand. We found this guy. He was super friendly. I could even touch him. He'd hiss at me but never try to bite. He'd move away a bit but he was cute (guess it could've been a she too).
I love Canadian Geese. I would love to have one for a pet!
This was his/her sidekick. Not as shy as the others but more shy than he/she was.
I didn't want Charlotte chasing them but the little punk can't resist and those geese are so good about it.
They have a few random stumps around so Charlotte was climbing on this one closest to us.
After the bread was gone we headed over to the playground. My mom sat with Jackson under a tree and he kicked around talking to her and the tree. Charlotte played on the playground while I supervised and overheard a story between these two dads that had their kids at the park. One guy talking about his friend who had come over and told him after 11 years of marriage him and his wife were divorcing and it had something to do with her racking up 12 grand in credit card debt on clothes and stuff. Seriously? That's crazy! Oh the things you overhear.

After playing we went for some lunch. We drove around a while not sure where we wanted to go and then Charlotte said she wanted a quesadilla. So we found a Betos which isn't my first choice but it does remind me of the good Mexican food from Cali. So we went there. I had the fun experience of changing Jackson's diaper in the booth and nursing him there. Good times. Then we decided to drive around a bit until we heard about the car. We drove up by the U then around the east side there and through the neighborhoods looking at the amazing houses. We even went right by the actual U on the hill. Then we were in the avenues and came across this guy. He was crossing the road with a quail. It was the funniest thing. Side by side a snake and a quail. I stopped my car. It was a quiet neighborhood and got out to make sure this snake made it across safely. The quail took off and I think he was just a gopher snake. He looked really healthy. Probably about 3-4 ft long. I pet his tail and he got all freaked out and moved out of the street quicker. Mission accomplished! He climbed into some rocks in someone's yard. So cute!
So after this we drove around the capital and by City Creek Center and finally the car was about done. Charlotte had a little nap in the car. Jackson slept the whole time. It was a long day and I was exhausted. It was also shortly after my illness was setting in and I was not feeling good at all. we had left at like almost 9 that morning and didn't get home until 3pm. A lot of time in the car. But the kids were good and we had a fun little adventure.

You crack me up! You are the only person I know who would stop the car and make sure a snake gets across a street safely! I for sure would not be stopping or even care...sorry, but true. I guess people like you, make up for people like me!
