Foster The People

For my little sister's graduation/birthday present I decided to take her to go see Foster The People. Her favorite band. I really like them too and I remembered how she was bummed because none of her friends would go and she wasn't sure what my parents would think. Then when trying to think of ideas I thought maybe I could take her and my parents were totally fine (I had been to quite a few concerts by the time I was her age so I figured it'd be cool). So Scott was gonna get off work a little early that day and brave the kiddos and bedtime so I could go. I worked so hard all day to make it as easy as I could on him because he had been working some crazy hours that week and I knew he'd be tired and I was just super excited to spend some time with my sister. Can you tell I don't get out often? :)

We had hoped to leave around 5 but Scott couldn't get off until about 5:20 because they are already kinda short handed at work and one person scheduled a vacation. But I was still able to leave here a little after 5:35 so not too bad. Luckily we were just going to Saltair. We had just hoped to be closer to the front. We got out there and the line was longer than I thought it'd be. They started letting us in about 6:30. It was hot in there. There are like no fans. And its not as big as I thought it'd be. Like the size of some of the club shows I had been to but maybe a little bigger. We were pretty annoyed with most of the people around us. Lots of immature teenagers. Too many guys in tank tops and when they're all sweaty and your sleeve on your shirt is wet from their sweat.... bleh.... super gross. Guys should not wear tank tops to shows like that.

We had lots of people try to cut in front of us. Lots of people pushing us. I yelled at quite a few people.  I think Scott was more nervous about me going because he thought I might start something with someone. Hahaha... I'm sure I made some people mad but I'm going to call people out when they cut in front of me or are doing something stupid to hurt either me or my sister. We had our incidents but nothing bad. It just kind of made me sad for these kids parents. If they had seen how some of them were and how they treated people around them, I'm sure they'd be embarrassed. Some people have no manners and no consideration for others and they act like this show was going to define their entire being. Maybe I'm just getting old and grumpy but my sister was surprise and said her generation needs help and a life. So it can't be all me right? :)

All in all it was an awesome show and I loved it. If you don't listen to Foster The People you should. Their music is clean and I love that even at their shows they have clean language. They also do service projects wherever they go. Their charity, Foster The Future, has teamed up with the Do Good Bus and they would do service in the community where they were playing. How cool is that. These guys are just really awesome and I like that they focus on giving back and teaching kids about serving others.

Anyway, here are my pictures from the show. Not great but they work. I have some video too but the sound isn't great. But if you know any of the songs it doesn't matter because they're just awesome live and you can sing the song in your head :) They just put on a great show with all their musical abilities and they had some great opening acts!

This is Kimbra. I had kind of heard of her before. I watched a couple videos the next day. Her videos do not do her voice justice. She is amazing live and her voice is incredible. How she is not more popular is just crazy. Waaaaaaay better than a lot of other artists I've heard. And how awesome is the drummer's hair? The drummer actually kind of looks like a clean shaven Orlando Bloom in a way... but with really crazy hair.

After Kimbra was Mayer Hawthorne and the County. His music reminds me of The Secret Handshake's album Night and Day. Its kinda like Motown and jazzy. It was really fun and I really liked him.

While Mayer Hawthorne was playing he said that Mark Foster told him he could play 5 min longer if he played Mark's favorite song. We had noticed Kimbra up on the mezzanine before but I couldn't see who was next to her. Once the crowd shifted a bit we could see Mark Foster at this point and he was smiling and laughing and kinda dancing and singing to Mayer Hawthorne's song.

This was when they came out. They opened with Miss You. I was really looking forward to this one live. Its really cool with all the lighting and what not.

It was like a crazy sauna in this place. Mark F. said if he was hot on stage he couldn't imagine how we felt in the audience so he asked them to grab some cases of water to toss bottles out to the crowd. Surprisingly I only saw like 2 people pulled from the pit but if you don't drink water you would probably be dying. I made sure I was plenty hydrated (thanks to experience in previous pits) so it wasn't too bad for me.

A kind of blurry picture of Cubbie. Chloe named one of their parakeets after him.

Kimbra came out for one song during the show. I guess they had written a song together. It was hard to pay attention though because of this nasty guy that came through and was standing by us. He had his shirt of and kept touching me and it was really gross. I really wanted him to move away. So so nasty. Its a public place. Wear a dang shirt.

They had a couple guys from the USU marching band doing horns on a song... can't remember which one.
Their encore performance started with Pumped Up Kicks. During the song confetti was shot out from each side of the stage.

Mark Foster came and stood on the guard fence stuff that they have up. We got shoved forward from people trying to get closer. Its okay people... its okay...
You can see Mark Pontius walking off. He's probably in the background of most my pics since he was drumming on the right side of the stage and we were on the left. Cubbie is throwing out guitar picks.

Here's my videos. The sound is not great but for me it doesn't matter. It's still awesome to watch. They are so good live.

Chloe and I had a blast and I told her when No Doubt tours again we are so going together. Scott doesn't like concerts so she's my new concert buddy.
