Ivins Trip 10/1 - 10/2

Tuesday morning we took a bike ride. This time I didn't have to haul the kids because we bought another attachment so now Scott knows how it feels to pull the kids around especially on the uphill. Haha. I wanted to do a longer ride so we rode about 4 miles to a park at some softball diamonds.

We met this nice lady walking her little dog, Chloe, and she told us that there was a small duck pond too so we checked that out. When we got there and Charlotte saw the white ducks she asked if it was heaven and that was Apache (my mom's duck that was killed). Kids are cute and so innocent. I told her no but someday she would get to see Apache again. Cute Charlotte.

Scott and I would laugh every time we saw these signs since his best friend growing up was Steve Roberts.

Later that day we wanted to check out the Jacob Hamblin home in Santa Clara. We were hoping the kids would do decently. Jackson was not a fan but we had to wait outside because another tour was in progress and I think he got sick of waiting. Charlotte did pretty good but could have been better too. It was neat to check out though.

This was a stone that was found in the mountains or something. Someone had found it and then they were able to get it cut out and transferred to the home here.

At the end of the tour a lady asked about the Mountain Meadow Massacre site and the Sister missionary told us where it was. I decided to check it out online and thought it'd be something neat to do. I had also been wanting to see the Pine Valley Chapel which wasn't far. So the next day that was what we ended up doing.

If you haven't heard of the story of the Mountain Meadow Massacre you can read this article. I thought it was very well put and very informative: http://www.lds.org/ensign/2007/09/the-mountain-meadows-massacre

On our way to Pine Valley we had a pretty epic moment. 190,000 miles on my car! Wow!

Of course this closed for tours just a few days before. Figures. I have seen the replica at This Is The Place but maybe next time we're out. But I guess they do still use it as an LDS church and hold Sunday meetings here each week. What a cool place to go to church!

What a gorgeous place to live. No wonder people settled here!

I wanted to check out the cemetery too while we were there. Pretty interesting.

Thought it was pretty interesting the things left on this grave

I didn't know they had these medal type things. I had never seen one before. A neat thing to find for someone who served in the Mormon Battalion

Some of the old grave sites are all overgrown like these.

Looks like they used to use the red sandstone but some families have bought better ones to remember loved ones.

Some are cracked and broken like this one

The Mountain Meadows Massacre site is really neat. Its so quiet out there and peaceful. I can't imagine what happened but it is a very sad moment in Mormon history.

After we were done we decided we'd just get dinner out since we were gone longer than we thought. We drove into St. George and got Burger King since we had some coupons. Jack really liked his crown.

I think we went swimming again after getting home and eating. That or played tennis. We did a lot of both while we were down there.
