Ivins Trip 10/3 - 10/6

Charlotte had really been enjoying the rock climbing so we decided to go back to Pioneer Park in St. George and let her climb around. I like climbing rocks too so I was having fun. Two seconds after we set Jackson down to walk he trips and ends up basically doing a somersault and scratching up his forehead and nose. Luckily nothing too bad.

We went back to the condo after this and did some laundry and wanted to clean everything up before Scott's parents and brother made it down that evening. Scott took Charlotte out to play tennis while Jackson napped and I was able to clean up and get the kitchen mopped and laundry finished up.

The next day Scott and I had the awesome opportunity to go to the temple together and do a session. His mom watched the kids for us. It was so nice to be able to do that and to see the new video which is awesome. We usually have a live session at the SLC temple and I only had seen the other video once. But the new video was really neat and just seemed to help me have a better and clearer view on the creation and it was just really good. This was also my first time inside the St. George temple so another awesome opportunity. After the session we ran to walmart for milk and we needed a smaller stroller to better navigate the finish line area of the marathon. Once we got back Scott's parents and brother went to hear someone speak and also get their stuff for the race and have a nice carb loaded dinner. I was able to take this gem of Rick when they got back. He was checking out all his stuff for the race. I think we all went swimming at the pool too. I can't remember for sure when but we all went together.

The next morning we got up and got ready and grabbed breakfast then headed down to the finish line of the race. Parking wasn't as bad as I thought but we were having a hard time seeing people at the finish line. I set my camera to basically take multiple pics one after another and as soon as I heard Rick's name I started taking them. We forgot to ask what he was wearing so we had to guess. He is wearing the blue shirt and hat in the pics below. We were so excited for him. This was his first marathon and he did awesome. I know he said the time was off by a couple min or something but I wanna say he beat his goal by like 10 min. Something like that. And he looked totally fine at the finish line. We had been watching people collapse and puke and crawl across the finish line... literally. It is crazy what some people will do. But luckily Rick was trained by his dad so he was able to do it the healthy and smart way and just did a great job. We were so glad we could be there for his first marathon and to see him finish was fun too.

After waving Rick down later he walked around and met up with me and Scott. Scott's mom was awesome and took the kids to the playground so we could make sure we got pics of Rick finishing and we also wanted to get some of his dad when he crossed the finish line. We had sworn we heard Ken Spence at one point but couldn't see him in the group that finished. So we kept waiting and finally heard it his name called and were able to get some pics. This was his 20th St. George marathon and 29th total marathon. Amazing right? We're super excited because Rick and Ken both plan on doing the Ogden marathon in May 2014 which will be Ken's 30th marathon so we're talking about just getting a hotel in Ogden and doing something fun for that and of course being there at the finish line to cheer both of them on. It actually will be the week right after our anniversary and Scott's bday so Scott and I figure we'll just group it all together. So anyway, below are the pics of Ken finishing. He's wearing the long black sleeves and white shirt with black hat.

Here's a pic of our awesome runners! It was such a fun thing to come down and be part of. We would love to do it again next year!

After this we went down to the pool so the boys could enjoy the spa and rest their tired muscles. We caught the afternoon session of conference on Sat. Scott's parents and brother went to a dinner that night and we took the kids to the park and shot around. Scott was able to watch most of priesthood and Charlotte and I went out for a bit. We went to Paradise Bakery for some cookies to have while driving home. Then we went to Sonic for a cherry limeade and strawberry slush. On the way home Charlotte was messing around and inhaled some. She was coughing and sounded like she couldn't get air. I was in a panic. I was just getting off the freeway in a construction zone with nowhere to pull over. Luckily I was able to make a quick right and turn into a Wendy's parking lot. By this point she had ended up gagging while coughing and puked all over herself. Poor kid. And I barely had anything with me to clean it up because we were just making a couple quick stops so I only brought my phone and wallet. Luckily she was fine and okay but shaken up. I don't think I've ever been so scared. Phew.

Once we got the kids down for bed we went down to swim and Scott's mom stayed back with them. It was a nice mini date before we had to head home. We did some laundry that night and tried to pack up what we could. The next morning we spent packing and loading up the car and headed out just after conference was starting. The kids were okay driving home. They had their moments but we were able to listen to most of it and we got home just about 4pm. We had a couple stops that took longer than planned. One being Charlotte's bathroom trip but the kids got to run around at the rest stop a bit. My sister had stayed at the house with Toby while we were gone so he was super excited to see us. We had such a nice time away. It was a much needed vacation for us. Scott had been working a lot of long hours and with all our church stuff too we were hardly seeing each other. The kids loved having Scott around and ever since I get asked multiple times a day by Jackson, "Where's daddy?" He really got attached to him. He get super excited now when he comes home. We're already looking forward to when we can go back again. Such a good vacation!
