Jackson's Cast Off

So my last post should be a big clue as to why I have slacked off blogging. I have been busy! So now I'm trying to remember the last two months. Well I don't think I ever posted about Jackson getting his cast off. Hallelujah we made it through that! We'll be paying off those bills for the next couple years probably (with 8% interest thanks to IHC's new CEO according to my brother). Thank goodness my hospital bills should be paid off in the next few months. Phew! Now if I can stay out of there for 5 years I just might be able to get outta debt! I am thankful that we've all been taken care of though and fixed the way we need to. It would just be nice if the price wasn't so hefty.

Jack was quite a trooper through it all. The little stinker figured out how to walk in that darn cast. Really have no idea how but he did. I was so excited taking him in that day. I couldn't wait to give that car seat back and have my normal kid back. He got his xray first and they said it looked great. A nurse came in and cut it off. He was kind of nervous but did great. She said their leg tends to be sore for a couple weeks so warm baths might help his muscles. He didn't seem to want to move it much but once I gave him puzzles to do on my kindle he calmed down pretty quick. Dr Rothberg came in and asked me some questions about his cast like how did he do with that type of cast and did it make diaper changing any easier than the normal spica. I was telling him how Jackson had been walking and he was surprised. That definitely made the diaper changing "easier" but it was still a pain!

The dr told me that we'll check up on him in Sept. If his leg grows more than 2 cm within two years of the accident then they'll have to do a procedure where they drill holes in each side of his knee and put a plate in to stop the growth. He said this isn't common so I'm hoping for once we're a common case. Guess we'll find out how it's going in Sept. He told me he probably wouldn't walk for a few days. Ha! They apparently don't know my Jackson very well. As soon as we left the office and got in the elevator he wanted to be set down and walked all the way from the south end of PCMC to the north end parking lot. It was a slow walk with a bit of a limp but he didn't and refused to hold my hand at all. That's my boy!

It has been wonderful having my crazy boy back. He runs all over and acts as if nothing ever happened. He scares me a ton and I find myself a little overly paranoid that he's going to do it again. I've moved the cart to the basement and try to not let him climb on some stuff. I know I can't protect him with everything but I so can't afford another break like that!

Here are some "after" pics. He still kept his right leg stretched out for a few days until his normal movement was back.
